20-Year-Old Arraigned In Death After Reported Lottery Win

DETROIT (AP) - A young man charged with murder in the death of an 86-year-old who disappeared after telling people that he won a lottery prize is due back in court this month.

Quanzell Hood was charged Friday with first-degree murder. The 20-year-old was arraigned Saturday and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

Hood is expected to get a court-appointed lawyer. The Detroit News reports he's jailed and a hearing to determine if the case goes to trial is scheduled for Feb. 20.

Arthur Neal's body was Feb. 1 in a vacant Detroit home, about six weeks after he disappeared. Hood is accused of killing Neal while trying to get money from him.

Police aren't sure if Neal actually won a $20,000 lottery prize. No winning ticket has been cashed.
