(CBS DETROIT) —Two separate crashes closed southbound I-75 at Schaefer in Detroit Monday morning, state police said.

The Detroit Regional Communications Center was notified at about 10 a.m. on April 22 of a crash on southbound I-75 near Schaefer Highway involving a 2013 Ford Escape and a Wayne County Road Truck.

No one was injured.

Michigan State Police say just after that crash, a 48-year-old driving a Jeep Compass was traveling in the left lane and hit a second Wayne County arrowboard truck.

The driver in the Wayne County vehicle was not injured, but the driver in the Jeep was taken to a local hospital to be treated for critical injuries.

Authorities were at the scene investigating the crashes and alerted drivers to expect delays. As of 1:08 p.m. Monday, the freeway was still closed.

State police say speed is a factor in both of the crashes.

"We want to remind drivers how important it is to drive at a safe speed," said Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw. "As construction zones continues to ramp up, it is important to focus on driving. This is not only for your safety, but the safety of road workers."
