Red Flashing Lights Will Be Eliminated In Oakland County

OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - Dinosaurs are extinct, and so are polyester leisure suits...and as WWJ Newsradio 950's Rob Sanford reports, the same will soon be true for flashing red lights in Oakland County.

The Road Commission for Oakland County has announced that slowly but surely the flashing red lights for left hand turn lanes will be disappearing. In many cases a motorist will start to creep into an intersection in anticipating of the next light being the green arrow for the turn.

What is replacing the flashing red will now be a flashing yellow light instead. The change is part of a federal government mandate, and eventually all left hand turn lanes will go to the yellow flashing.

So far, eight Oakland County intersections have been changed over.
