Colorado Author Teaches Acceptance Through New Book

LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS) - A Colorado author is working to fight bullying and promote acceptance with a new book.

Loveland native Zach Wood has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair.

"I wrote this book to let people know it's okay to be handicapped," Wood said.

Wood visited a local preschool to read his book "Carlos Goes To Preschool."

In the book the main character Carlos has cerebral palsy just like Wood does. He's also in a wheelchair. Wood's book takes a look at Carlos' first day of preschool.

Wood writes from experience, exploring how hard it is to leave your comfort zone. He also shares the rewards of making new friends and having new experiences.

He hopes his book will open people's minds.

"Just because you have a disability doesn't mean that you can't reach beyond your limits, I'm living proof of that," Wood said.

Wood is now working on his next book which will be called "Carolos Rides The Bus." He plans to make his books a series.
