'Z' Place Opens For Children In Northeast Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - The youngest residents of northeast Denver have a new place to learn and grow.

The Z Place is a new comprehensive, community-based early childhood and family support center. It nurtures children from birth to age 21.

Z Place is located on the Evie Denis campus, which is dedicated to helping 35,000 at-risk youth.

Rev. Brenda Girton-Mitchell from the U.S. Department of Education loves the name Z Place because "Z" can mean what you want it to.

"I could walk in this place and feel an energy that's real, so nobody's putting on today, acting like they're just doing this because the sun is out and you didn't have any place else to go," Girton-Mitchell said. "You demonstrated that you're going to be working together for a long time on the behalf of all of our children."

Charitable groups worked together to research the project and find the funding Z Place.
