DENVER (CBS4) – The world's best Donkey Kong players gathered over the weekend at a Denver bar to compete for the title of World Champion.

Gamers from all over came to compete in the "Kong Off 3" tournament at the 1UP bar in LoDo.

They competed for the world champion title and $4,500 worth of prizes.

Jourdan Adler is the owner of the bar and says it's a heated competition.

"This year we're seeing just an incredible mesh of players. The momentum has grown from last year's competition and now everybody is playing at world record pace. So not only are we expecting a victor in the end, we're also expecting the new world record of Donkey Kong to be set here 30 years since the game's release at the 1UP," said Adler.

The 1UP bar features more than 45 classic arcade games and pinball.
