Woman Facing Sex Assault Charge Is A Career Teacher
DENVER (CBS4) - A woman charged with sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl she was close family friends with has worked with children throughout her career.
Alex Kuisis, 41, was arrested earlier this month and formally charged this week with sexual assault on a child following allegations that she repeatedly molested the girl beginning in 2008.
The victim recently disclosed that she was assaulted multiple times, in different locations.
"It's not unusual, especially with young victims of sexual assault, for their to not be a report right away, and for there to be a delay in the outcry," said Lynn Kimbrough, spokeswoman for the Denver District Attorney's Office.
Kuisis has an online resume that states she has worked with children for several years. That includes work as a teacher at a preschool in Boulder, an elementary school in Commerce City and the Montessori Academy of Colorado in Denver.
A blog entry posted on Kuisis' website after her arrest seems to address the situation. The author writes "There may be dark energy trying to permeate my life, but I'm flat out not going to let it."
Kimbrough said the investigation surrounding Kuisis is continuing.
"There's no indication that there are any other victims, but that will certainly be something that investigators will keep an eye towards," Kimbrough said.
Kuisis' defense attorney sent an email to CBS4 saying "it is unfortunate that the Denver DA filed formal charges ... without giving the defense team the opportunity to present information that calls into question the credibility of these very-delayed allegations."
Kuisis has been released from custody on $50,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 6 for a second advisement.
