Trial Set To Start For Man Accused In Neighborhood Rampage

DENVER (CBS4) - The trial for a Denver man who allegedly shot and killed his neighbor and shot and wounded his wife was scheduled to start Tuesday.

Daniel Abeyta faces charges that include first-degree murder in the August 2013 crime in the Harvey Park neighborhood in southwest Denver. He has been in jail since he was arrested.

After the shootings Abeyta was shot by a police officer after they say he shot at makeshift bombs that had been placed on the street near his home. The officer was cleared after an investigation into the shooting was completed.

Abeyta's wife was shot in the lower part of her body. His neighbor Sandra Roskilly was killed.

Prosecutors say the bombs were propane tanks that were rigged with gunpowder on top so they would explode.

The hearing is expected to last for several days.
