Transgender Teen Nominated As Homecoming Princess
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- There is controversy brewing at a high school in Colorado Springs where a transgender teen has been nominated for homecoming princess.
Scarlett Lenh was born a boy but living as a girl. She is a junior attending Sand Creek High School in Colorado Springs.
She started dressing as a girl this school year. She said the nomination makes her feel like she's finally being accepted.
"It's just about being yourself. That's what I want to do, inspire people. I want everyone to know no matter what body you're in or what mind set you have, being you is the best feeling in the world. No matter what," said Lenh.
Several parents are not happy but none of them wanted to give a statement on camera.
The school said in a statement it will, "Not exclude any person from participating in any program or activity on the basis of gender identity and gender expression."
