Top Speakers And Lectures Coming To The Denver Area This Fall

In addition to the wide variety of live theatre, music, film and art in Denver, the lecture and speaker scene continues to thrive. Denver is always a popular stop on the national tours of many well-known and highly-respected speakers, covering every possible genre from politics to video games. Chances are, if you have an interest in something, then a speaker or lecture from a knowledgeable expert will be coming to speak in Denver. Take a look at these great upcoming lectures.

Experimental Film is a wonderfully unique art form and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art is proud to feature a lecture discussing experimental cinema and digital art. The lecture will be presented by filmmakers David Gatten and Phil Solomon. Gatten has been working in experimental cinema since 1996, working primarily in the area of printed words and moving images. In 2011, Gatten was featured in a 14-film retrospective that will be traveling to the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. Phil Solomon is another well-respected filmmaker who is most known for incorporating the use of 3D computer graphics into video games, primarily the "Grand Theft Auto" series.

Though she was born in Czechoslovakia, Madeleine Albright was the first female United States Secretary of State, serving from 1997 through 2001. She has continued to be one of the most respected women in United States political history, as well as a published author. Ms. Albright will be at the Tattered Cover Bookstore signing her most recent book, "Prague Winter: A Personal Story of Remembrance and War, 1937 – 1948." Her book traces her own reflections on World War II and the Nazi invasion of Prague. The signing will include a presentation by Ms. Albright, in addition to her book signing.

The Women's Foundation of Colorado is proud to be celebrating its 25th anniversary. The goal of the foundation has always been to build resources and change to ensure the equality of women and girls in Colorado. This event is the largest women's luncheon in the state of Colorado, and it will feature actress Geena Davis as the keynote speaker. In addition to her well-known acting career, she is also the founder of her own non-profit, The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, with the goal to increase the percentages of female characters and to reduce gender stereotyping in the media.

If you are a fan of science-fiction literature, then this is the convention for you. The MileHiCon is the largest of its kind with more than 80 authors and speakers attending. There will be many different panels covering everything from science fiction to fantasy and horror in literature, books, TV and film. Some of the guests of honor include author Cherie Priest, a Nebula and Hugo Award-nominated author, CJ Henderson, a well-known horror author and Stephen Hickman, a science-fiction and fantasy illustrator. The toastmaster for the event will be Stephen Graham Jones, another well-known horror and science-fiction author.

Howard Pollack is a well-respected musical theatre expert and a professor at the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. Pollack will be presenting a lecture and recital featuring the works of Marc Blitzstein, the well-known American composer. Blitzstein is probably most known for his work on the revival of "Threepenny Opera" in 1954 or the musical "Juno" in 1959. The evening will feature the talent of baritone Marcus de Loach and mezzo soprano Marcia Ragonetti.
