Theater Victim's Mom Meeting With Obama In Denver
DENVER (AP) — The mother of a woman killed in the Colorado theater shooting will be among those meeting with President Obama in Denver on Wednesday.
Sandy Phillips' 24-year-old daughter Jessica Ghawi was one of 12 people killed in the July 20th attack.
Phillips concedes that gun control is a difficult issue, and said she has spoken to numerous lawmakers in Washington who "want to do the right thing without it costing their jobs."
She said she is counting on Obama to press the issue. At a minimum, she wants to see universal background checks for every gun sale. But she also wants Obama to push for an assault weapons ban and magazine restrictions.
Obama will also meet with law enforcement officials and community leaders.
