Teen Driver Killed When Car Crashes Into Retention Pond

BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4)- A 14-year-old girl was killed when the car she was driving went into a retention pond near Brighton.

Investigators identified the girl as Sara Haverstuhl.

The crash happened when the vehicle rolled off Riverdale Road near 153rd Avenue in Adams County, smashed through a fence and into a retention pond about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police say two 17 year old's and a 30 year old woman were in the car with her. They survived with minor injuries.

State troopers tell CBS4 that alcohol and speed are possible factors in the crash.
