State Supreme Court Hears Marijuana Wrongful Firing Suit

DENVER (CBS4) - The state Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday in the case of a Colorado man fired from his job for using medical marijuana.

Brandon Coats, a quadriplegic since 16, worked for Dish Network but was fired more than four years ago after testing positive for THC, a chemical in marijuana.

Coats says he used medical marijuana, legal under state law, from home only. Dish Network argues that because it's illegal under federal law, it was justified in firing Coats.

Legal experts say the outcome could change how every business in Colorado handles employees who use marijuana.
