State Health Department Releases Infection Stats

DENVER (AP) - The Colorado health department has released its second health facility infections report for 2011.

The bulletin contains information about hemodialysis patients and the increased risk of infection.

Colorado began health care-associated infection reporting in outpatient hemodialysis centers last year.

Health officials say hemodialysis patients are at increased risk for infection due to the nature of their disease and the exposures they encounter.

Health facility-acquired infections are infections that occur during or after treatment for a separate medical condition.
