Everyone in the building was evacuated safely. SMFR said no injuries were reported.

There were some issues with ventilating the area, and the fire department said it is working on a plan to remove the smoke from the building.

The SMFR Fire Marshal's Office says an electrical malfunction in a light fixture in an unoccupied classroom caused the fire.

The Douglas County School District says all students were moved to ThunderRidge High School.

A spokesperson for the district said that parents may pick up their children at any time, and members of the middle school's administrative team are located in the ThunderRidge High School's west side parking lot. They advised families to be patient because both schools will be dismissing in the same area today, meaning there will be a larger amount of traffic.

Students can pick up their belongings once they are dismissed.

The buses are scheduled to run as normal, and after school activities will continue as planned, the district added.

They said middle school classes will resume on Wednesday.
