Fire Collapses Roof At Adams County Auto Repair Shop

DENVER (CBS4) - Two overnight fires at an Adams County auto repair business gutted the building, destroyed cars inside and collapsed the roof.

No one injured.

The first fire happened near midnight at a business park in the 5700 north block of Logan Street. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but another fire at approximately 4 a.m. caused the roof to cave in. Investigators said it's unclear if the fires are related.

Nine cars not belonging to the business' owner were destroyed.

The owner, Abdul Saleh, said he was more concerned about owners' cars than he was about his property.

"It bothers me. My property, I deal with. I have insurance," Saleh said. "To me, somebody else's property is more valuable to me than my own property."

Saleh has been in business at the location for more than 20 years. He said he will rebuild.

Photos Saleh shared with CBS4 before the second fire show the inside of the building charred and much of the contents destroyed. All the businesses on the lot belong to Saleh.

It's not clear how the fire started, but when they were fighting the fire, emergency crews said they heard some small explosions, which could have been spray paint cans or propane tanks exploding.

Adams County Fire Department spokesman Mark Schuman said the investigation could take a while.

"The investigators will have a tough job because there's a lot of debris ... to sift through to determine the cause and origin of the fire," he said.
