Refugees Celebrate Early Thanksgiving With Traditional Meal

DENVER (CBS4)- Refugees from all over the world are making their new home in Denver. On Thursday, more than 400 of them celebrated their first Thanksgiving in America.

Volunteers and staff at Isabella Bird Community School in Stapleton served an early Thanksgiving meal to nearly 50 new students and their families.

The luncheon was part of the school's ambassador program in which English-speaking students befriend new students to help families adapt to life in the United States.

"It's good experiences for me to learn how they gather together and enjoy the food with the family, giving thanks with each other," said refugee Angel Rasaily.

The refugee families come from southeast Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
