Man Shot In Head At Red Rocks Files Lawsuit Against City
DENVER (CBS4) - The victim of a violent shooting at Red Rocks almost two years ago is now suing the City and County of Denver.
Attorney Elliot Tiomkin represents Michael McGee in the case, he argues more security should have been in place at a venue that serves thousands of people.
"We're alleging that there was essentially no security," Tiomkin said.
As it stands no weapons of any kind are allowed in Red Rocks Amphitheater. Tiomkin believes the venue and the promoter failed to enforce that policy.
In June of 2014 McGee was working for the artist known as ScHoolboy Q.
After the group he was with left the amphitheater on the night of ScHoolboy Q's performance and were approaching the Trading Post in their white Suburban, McGee was shot in the head.
"I think there is a broader issue," Tiomkin said. "In the current climate that we live in, I think large venues should have ample security because frankly it effects each and every person that walks into a concert."
The lawsuit claims they were promised significant security but instead they say it was lax, and that screening was not implemented.
They are now seeking $15 million in damages.
The suit comes now just as the two year statute of limitations was set to expire.
McGee allegedly still has a bullet lodged in his head, and no suspect has ever been identified.
