Police Detain 2 Suspects After Shooting Of Young Boy

LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in the southern part of the Denver metro area on Tuesday morning detained two people who are suspects in a Denver shooting case involving a young boy.

Officials with Littleton police said they were called in along with Englewood officers to Federal and Belleview after a report came in to Denver police about two men in a white Volvo. A car with that description was one Denver officials were reportedly searching for after a boy passenger was shot while traveling inside an SUV on Monday night.

The men were detained without incident.

The 8 year old, whose name has not been released, is in the hospital with serious injuries.

The crime happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. near 6th and Knox. Authorities said a white car pulled up to a Jeep and fired at least one shot toward the rear of the vehicle. The bullet struck the child in the back.

The white car drove off and the driver of the Jeep went to a 7-Eleven near 5th and Federal to call for help. Paramedics took the 8-year-old to the hospital, where he may require surgery Tuesday morning.

In addition to saying they were looking for a white Volvo, police also said Monday they were looking for two Hispanic men. Police on Tuesday so far haven't said what the description of they men they detained was.

Police said the boy's mother and mother's friend were also in the Jeep at the time of the shooting. Their names have not been released.

Denver officers are still investigating the shooting. Anyone with more information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
