Police Arrest Fourth Suspect In Kidnapping, Sex Assault Investigation

DENVER (CBS4) - Police have arrested a fourth suspect wanted in connection with a raid at home near West Mississippi Avenue and South Lipan Street on Friday where officers arrested three men. On Monday, police captured a fourth suspect, Steven Hillen.

Denver police put out a crime bulletin for Hillen, 27, on Friday, who had been on the run for three days. He was found by police just after 2 p.m. Sunday thanks to a tip.

A SWAT team broke through the windows and doors of the house, collecting bags of evidence looking for Hillen.

Police were contacted Friday about a kidnapping and sex assault leading to the arrest of three men, identified as Edgar Barroso, Juvenal Tamayo and Pedro Valdez. All four men were charged with felony menacing, attempted first-degree kidnapping, and second-degree assault.

"Our sex crimes unit is continuing to look into this as a sexual assault investigation. Those charges may be added as this investigation goes farther along," said Doug Schepman with Denver police.

Hillen was arrested without incident in the area of W. Kentucky Avenue and S. Wolff Street. Investigators have not released key details based on the nature of the alleged crime or how the four suspects are connected.

Now investigators want the public to take a hard look at the images of the four suspects in police custody out of concern that there may be more victims.

"If there are additional victims out there we would encourage them to come forward and speak with our investigators," said Schepman.

Hillen was believed to be armed and dangerous. Police said they're not releasing more information about the alleged crimes in order to protect victims.
