Overnight Standoff Prompts Home Evacuations
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A standoff between officers and a man in a house continued into Monday morning from Sunday night in Aurora.
Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office deputies were at the house in the 20400 block of East Hampden Place to the check the welfare of a male at approximately 9 p.m. Sunday. A round was fired at the deputies, who were not injured and did not respond fire.
A reverse 911 call went out to homes in the area, and those closest were evacuated. An RTD bus arrived on scene to keep people warm while out of their homes.
Bangs were heard around 6 a.m. at East Hampden Avenue and South Himalaya Street after several hours of quiet.
Aurora Police are working with Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office in dealing with the suicidal man who has barricaded himself inside a home.
East Hampden Avenue was closed to traffic between South Himalaya Street and South Liverpool Street, until it reopened at 8 a.m.
