Officials Release Names Of Husband, Wife Killed In Black Forest Fire
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - El Paso County officials have released the name of the man and woman who died last week in the Black Forest Fire.
Marc Allen Herklotz, 52, and Robin Lauran Herklotz, 50, were killed. They were found in their car in a garage.
El Paso County Coroner Dr. Robert Bux and his staff worked with forensic odontologist Dr. Joe Gentile to make the positive identification.
El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa said earlier the couple had been planning to leave the area. The couple lived at 6720 Jicarilla Drive.
"We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends they leave behind," the coroner stated in a prepared statement.
The fire burned more than 500 homes and is 85 percent contained. More evacuees were allowed to return home Tuesday afternoon as firefighters gain ground on the week-old fire.
Investigators are stepping up efforts to figure out how the fire started. They are concentrating on a 40 foot by 40 area but still aren't saying if it was accidental or set on purpose.
