RTD released a statement that said, "RTD is deeply concerned by the shooting that occurred this evening aboard an RTD-contracted operated bus servicing Route 76 in Lakewood. Our thoughts are with those affected directly by this incident. The safety and well-being of our customers, employees, and partners remain our highest priority. RTD personnel responded to the incident immediately and are fully cooperating with the Lakewood Police Department as it conducts its investigation. There are no impacts to RTD service currently."

Police closed down the intersection at Bannock Street and N. Speer Blvd. outside of Denver Health. There was a large police presence there from agencies from all over the Metro Area.

CommonSpirit St. Anthony Hospital released a statement saying that there is one patient there with non-life threatening injuries. They have not confirmed whether that patient is an officer. But, during a conversation with a Denver Health doctor, he confirmed one of four patients at their hospital was not a police agent.

A witness at the scene says a car rear-ended an RTD bus and then he heard 13 shots fired. Patrick Dickman told CBS Colorado he was inside the Easy Pawn when he heard the shots. He said that officer surrounded the back of the bus and fired into it. He also said he saw about five ambulances leave the scene.

Lakewood Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional details would be released as they become available.

Gov. Jared Polis released a statement saying, "Law enforcement put their lives on the line for our safety everyday and I am heartbroken to learn that a Lakewood Police Agent was killed in the line of duty this evening. My heart goes out to their family and friends. My thoughts are also with the three agents who are still receiving care at area hospitals, as well as the civilian who was wounded, and I wish them a full and speedy recovery. Thank you to law enforcement who run into danger to keep us safe and to protect our communities."
