Man Who Came After Denver Officer With A Brick Formally Charged

DENVER (CBS4) - A man accused of assaulting a Denver police officer has been formally charged.

According to Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office, Jose Caldera, 29, has been charged with second-degree assault for an incident on June 27.

"Numerous concerned citizens called 911 to report a man acting strangely in the area of 41st Avenue and Knox Court. A Denver police officer was dispatched and arrived in the area. The charge alleges that Caldera, armed with a large brick, refused to comply with the officer's commands and charged the officer in an attempt to hit him with the brick," Kimbrough said in a statement.

After a struggle the officer was injured and taken to the hospital.

Caldera is out of custody on a $10,000 bond. He's scheduled to appear in court on July 13 to be formally advised of the charge.
