Man Loses Leg After Getting Hit By Train
LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) - A man lost his leg after being hit by a train in Longmont Wednesday night.
It happened at 10:08 p.m. on South Hover Road just south of Ken Pratt Boulevard.
Longmont Police said the train crew spotted the man lying across the tracks before he was hit. They applied full brake power but still dragged the 22-year-old under the train for 85 feet.
The train conductor performed immediate first aid by applying tourniquets to the victim, likely saving his life, according to authorities.
The victim's left leg was amputated and his right foot was caught. Police said he was awake and alert while being treated and prepared for transport to Denver Health via medical helicopter.
It is believed the man had been drinking.
