Lawmakers Plan Climb To Help Repair Capitol Dome
DENVER (AP) - Colorado lawmakers are joining state architect Larry Friedberg on a tour of the Colorado Capitol dome on Wednesday to point out the need for repairs.
More than a dozen state lawmakers have signed up to hike two mountains next week to call attention and raise money for a repair project currently under way.
A campaign to ask Coloradans to send text messages donations of $10 each to get the repairs going has so far has fallen short, while the cost of the project has risen from $12 million to $17 million.
The cast-iron enclosure of the dome has deteriorated so badly that a 10-pound chunk of cast iron fell off in 2007.
