Winds Die Down As Temperatures Begin to Cool

By Ed Greene

DENVER (CBS4) - Monday strong winds raked the front range and some mountain areas: some "draw-dropping" gusts: Glen Haven: 76mph; El Dorado Springs: 79mph; Louisville: 82mph; Gold Hill: 87mph; Colorado City: 97mph; Manitou Springs: 99mph; Cheyenne Mountain Air Station: 101mpg and 1 mile north of Security: 103mph! Winds have died down a great deal across the state and will continue that trend through the night...in fact at 5pm DIA was actually reporting winds as "calm", after recording gusts as high as 53mph during Monday. The downslope winds helped warm our temperatures as well, with an official high at the airport of 62 degrees, the downtown location reporting 63.

Temperatures in the forecast are not quite as warm for Tuesday - look for a high around 50, but that is still 6 degrees above normal for this time of year. Another mild day for Wednesday - even a chance for an isolated rain shower - and a high in the lower 50s.

Cooler air returns as we move to Thursday - only in the upper 30s with a chance for an isolated snow shower; more of the same for Friday except a bit colder with a high in the low to mid 30s. Just in time for the weekend we get back to seasonal temperatures - low 40s Saturday, mid 40s Sunday - under partly sunny skies.
