Las Animas Horse Quarantined Over Virus

TRINIDAD, Colo. (AP) — A horse in Las Animas County has been quarantined after it tested positive for a virus that can cause painful sores.

The Colorado Department of Agriculture said Thursday that the horse tested positive for vesicular stomatitis. It is the state's first diagnosed case this year.

The disease is thought to be spread by insects that migrate along river valleys. Officials said the infected horse has not traveled recently.
