Holiday Weekend Visitors Check Out Newly Reopened Royal Gorge Park

CANON CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - More than a thousand people toured the new visitor center at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park in Canon City on Saturday.

The tourist attraction in Fremont County closed after last year's wildfire there burned 3,200 acres of the park and destroyed 48 of the 52 buildings.

For the first time since the fire guests this weekend are allowed to walk across the suspension bridge and ride on the Royal Rush Skycoaster.

The park will close again on Tuesday and then reopen on a daily basis starting on Sept. 6.

The Royal Gorge Fire started on June 11, 2013, on the gorge's south side.

Visitors to the gorge can also enjoy the area via the Royal Gorge Route Railroad. Visit their website at
