Historic Denver Adds Capitol Hill To Their Walking Tours Program

DENVER (CBS4) - A new walking tour of the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Denver will begin May 1.

The tours are organized by Historic Denver as part of the Historic Denver Walking Tours program.

"The Capitol Hill Walking Tour will cover 1.2 miles and some of the area's most architecturally and historically interesting spots in Denver's once-ritzy neighborhood," Historic Denver said in a statement. "This new tour will tell stories of its founding and growth, the prominent architects involved, as well as the influential residents who lived here."

Historic Denver Walking Tours was launched last year by the organization to "inspire new audiences to engage with the history in our built environment and introduce participants to our local heritage through studying its architecture."

The tours are led by volunteers who learn the tours in a "rigorous" five-week training course. They are trained to add their own touches to the tours "ensuring that repeat visitors never see the same tour twice," according to Outreach and Tour Coordinator Shannon Schaefer.

The other walking tour goes through LoDo and ends at Union Station.

Tours last approximately 75 minutes.
