Milestone Reached To Safely Store City's Water
DENVER (CBS4) - Denver Water reached a milestone on Saturday in a $100 million project to safely store the city's water.
Crews were out at the Hillcrest Reservoir facility to pour concrete for one of three new storage tanks. Each one will hold 15 million gallons of water.
The project requires so much concrete that two local concrete plants had to close to other customers to meet the demand.
"We have two tanks here that are past their life expectancy. And so we're building three new tanks to replace them and increase capacity at the same time," said Martin Garcia with Denver Water.
The tanks store drinking water after it's gone through treatment.
Denver Water says the tanks will serve the city for the next 100 years.
