Grass Fire Claims 3 Structures, 12 Vehicles In Arapahoe County Near Bennett

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Firefighters from eight different agencies battled a grass fire that broke out in Arapahoe County Sunday morning near the town of Bennett.

According to Julie Brooks with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, the fire, which burn 100 acres on property located at 7147 Kincaid Street, claimed two sheds, a guesthouse and a dozen vehicles.

Crews now have the fire under control and were working to put out hot spots. Two fire fighters were treated for minor injuries.

"It is contained, it's out, they're putting out hot spots right now just making sure it's not going to reignite at some point," Sgt. Darren Gammel with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office said.

The residents were home when the fire started and made it out safely.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Another fire broke out near the town of Wellington north of Fort Collins in Larimer County Sunday morning. It burned about 400 acres in 30 mile per hour winds that pushed it towards a neighborhood. Crews were able to knock the fire down before anyone had to evacuate. It's not clear how it started.

Another grass fire in Weld County damaged several structures but no houses. Deputies had to close down streets in the area while firefighters got it under control.
