GOES-R Weather Satellite Launch Rescheduled Due To Hurricane Matthew

By Chris Spears

DENVER (CBS4) - NOAA's next generation weather satellite, built by engineers at Lockheed Martin in Littleton, will not be heading to space on Nov. 4 as previously planned.

The delay is due to a close call at Kennedy Space Center by Hurricane Matthew earlier this month.

While the overall infrastructure at Cape Canaveral escaped major damage there was some minor damage to ground systems.

According to United Launch Alliance, a tentative launch has been scheduled for Nov. 16 pending Eastern Range approval.
