Glenwood Springs Orders Power Towers Removed

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The Glenwood Springs City Council has ordered the oversized electric utility towers erected on a hillside above North Glenwood removed.

The council also demanded that Xcel file an application for a new tower design by Oct. 31.

The city says Xcel Energy installed the towers last year in violation of the 27-foot height restrictions in the city's hillside preservation zone.

Xcel supervisor Michael Diehl told the Glenwood Post Independent the utility erred in not seeking the special use permit.
