GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. (CBS4) - A big crowd turned out for the opening celebration of South Metro Fire Station 31 in Greenwood Village on Wednesday.

The former small, aging station was replaced by a brand new, nearly 11,000 square foot fire house that includes a dive rescue team.

The uncoupling of the hose marked the station's return to service.

"When you're driving around or if you're living here and you hear the wail of the siren or flashing red lights, that's something that should make you feel good because that means somebody has got a problem and somebody is coming to help take care of that problem," Greenwood Village Mayor Ron Rakowsky said. "What more can you ask for?"

And David Ojile is back, but on a new bench. For years the young man with autism has been a fixture outside the fire station waving to passersby. The new construction included a new bench for Ojile.
