Huge Fire Erupts At Recycling Facility; Smoke Seen For Miles
DENVER (CBS4) - A pile of garbage at Denver Metal Recycling ignited into a second alarm blaze near Interstate 70 and Colorado Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon.
Copter4 was overhead before firefighters arrived. Once crews did, they immediately started attacking the fire.
"Plastics and synthetics that can catch a spark and burn, and as they continue to fester they can create fire in other areas and it just built upon itself," said Denver Fire spokesman, Greg Pixley.
"We were putting thousands upon thousands of gallons on this fire trying to get to those deep heated seeded areas," said Pixley.
Fortunately, no one was hurt.
Details about what caused this fire have not been released.
