DPD Honors Their Own For Protecting Public
DENVER (CBS4)- The Denver Police Department honored their own with the highest awards given by the department -- the Medal of Honor.
All the honors presented to officers at Thursday's ceremony at the Brown Palace Hotel were for actions taken to protect the public.
Several officers received a medal for their response to a hostage situation at a Radio Shack on East Colfax in Denver's Park Hill neighborhood in 2012.
Michael Annan and Taveaun Williams entered the store near Colfax and Glencoe with red bandanas, a .35 caliber and 9mm handgun.
While robbing the store they took an employee hostage and shot at police officers.
The six-hour standoff ended when the two men surrendered to police.
The department said the officers advanced on the building despite gunfire from the suspects inside.
Other officers were honored for the Medal of Valor, a Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Cross.
