Dog Amazingly Survives Being Shot At Close Range, Needs Surgery

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A concerned citizen called the Boulder County Sheriff's Office after seeing a car drive off from an injured dog.

A two-door red pickup truck was seen leaving the area of St. Vrain Road and Highway 36 on July 7. The responding deputy found a stray dog wandering in a parking lot. The dog was badly injured, yet greeted the officer in a very friendly manner.

The dog was taken to the Aspen Meadow Veterinary Specialists where he received life-saving treatment. They discovered the dog was shot at close range.

The bullet fractured the dog's jaw bone in multiple locations and will now require surgery for removal and reconstruction.

The sheriff's office named "this extremely resilient boy Beefcakes," they said on their Facebook page.

Beefcakes is in the care of Longmont Humane Society. They set up a fund for the dog's recovery.
