DENVER (CBS4)- As the 4th of July approaches, firefighters in Denver are cracking down on illegal fireworks.
Firefighters and police in Denver are teaming up to step up patrols through the Independence Day holiday weekend to make sure those illegal fireworks don't cause any problems.
"Each year thousands of people are injured over the 4th of July holiday with the majority of those injuries being children and teenagers," said Denver Fire Department spokeswoman Melissa Taylor. "Across the country far more fires are reported nationally on July 4th than any other holiday.
All civilian fireworks are illegal within the City and County of Denver and many surrounding cities and townships in the Denver metro area.
Firefighters encourage everyone to enjoy a professional fireworks display to celebrate America's independence in a safe and celebratory fashion.
