Farmer In Weld County Defends Crops Against Fire
WELD COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A farmer's quick thinking in Weld County on Monday may have prevented a wildfire from spreading further through a large hay field.
The fire broke out in the afternoon in a rural area near Brighton after a thunderstorm moved through. It grew to between 20 and 30 acres.
While firefighters worked to get containment on the blaze farmer Eric Howard did his part, digging a fire line with his tractor as the flames raged only feet away.
"It was probably an 80 acre field. And it started quick and it burned fast," farmer Eric Howard said.
