LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) - Part of Highway 287 in Longmont was closed at Highway 66 for a deadly crash on Tuesday afternoon in which weather conditions likely played a factor. A 34-year-old person from Berthoud died.
Police say a Cadillac sedan was driving south on Hwy 287 when the driver lost control and started to spin sideways into northbound traffic.
The sedan was hit broadside on the driver's side of the vehicle by a Honda Pilot which was driving north.
Five people were in the SUV and were taken to the hospital with various injuries. Police say those victims are all from Fort Collins and are expected to be okay.
The driver of the Cadillac died.
Investigators say speed and icy road conditions are possible factors, but not drugs or alcohol.
The Boulder county Coroner's Office has not identified the Cadillac's driver. The intersection is expected to be closed until 10 p.m.
