'I Had To Slam On My Brakes': Construction Worker Finds Puppies Near Busy Street

DENVER (CBS4) - Construction worker Ronny Rose says he was at the right place at the right time. He was on his way to a job site around 6 a.m. Wednesday when he stumbled upon an adorable surprise: a trio of Rottweiler puppies were huddled together next to a busy road!

"I had to slam on my brakes and I pulled over to an alley to get to them," Rose told CBS4's Britt Moreno. He spotted the puppies near Alameda Avenue and Gaylord Street.

"I have a 13-year-old Lab and a 2-year-old pitt bull, so I'm a dog person," Rose said.

Even though he might have been late to the job site, he could not leave the puppies, about 8 to 12 weeks old, behind.

Soon, the great search to find the pups' owners began. Rose scooped up the puppies and started knocking on doors to find the puppies' owner. Concerned neighbors also tried to assist Rose by trying to reach even more residents; one shared a message on a neighborhood social website.

However, all the people living in this neighborhood said none of their neighbors had a litter of puppies recently. Rose decided someone had abandoned the female puppies.

In an effort to keep them safe, he loaded the pups into his truck and brought them to the roofing company where he works. He knew his some of coworkers would be willing to provide the puppies loving homes. That's when Ryan Ruck's day took an unexpected turn.

"It was pretty much a normal day going to work and then the next thing I knew I had a dog," he said.

After getting his wife's permission to bring a puppy home, Ruck quickly became "Dad of the Year" to his three kids.

"It was adorable," Ruck's son, Keylan, said.

Keylan and his younger siblings have never had a dog before, so they were very excited to buy her new toys and a bed. The family is also learning how to take care of their new best friend.

"You need to give it good food and the food that it needs," Keylan said. "When she's sniffing around that means she has to go potty."

The Ruck family may not know exactly where their new addition came from, but they definitely know she's in a good home now.

"I think God puts everybody where they're supposed to be," Ruck said. "Even dogs."

Ruck said they haven't named their puppy yet, but have a few ideas. Though he believes the puppy is healthy, he plans to take her to a veterinarian for a full checkup.

As for the other two puppies, they were also adopted by coworkers.
