Colorado Joins In Drug Settlement
DENVER (AP) -- Colorado will receive about $840,000 after it joined 36 other states in a $40 million settlement with pharmaceutical companies to resolve allegations of deceptive trade practices.
According to the complaint, GlaxoSmithKline and SB Pharmco Puerto Rico used substandard manufacturing techniques to produce Kytril, a drug used to prevent nausea caused by chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
According to Colorado Attorney General John Suthers, other drugs included Bactroban, an antibiotic ointment; Paxil CR, an antidepressant drug; and Avandamet, a drug used to treat Type II diabetes.
Suthers said the faulty manufacturing methods and the adulteration of the drugs were not disclosed to patients, which constituted a deceptive trade practice.
