Colorado high school student arrested, allegedly planned to kill teacher

A 16-year-old high school student is facing charges after they allegedly planned to kill one of the teachers at their school.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the Chatfield High School student took a 7-inch butcher knife from the kitchen on Tuesday morning, hid it in their backpack, and took it to school.

They said the student attended the teacher's class that morning with the knife hidden inside their backpack, but did not carry out their plan. The student instead went to the school office with their backpack and asked to speak to a counselor, the JCSO added. When the student explained their plan, the knife was confiscated, and the school notified the School Resource Officer.

The JCSO said the student was arrested and booked into the Marvin. W. Foote Youth Services Center. They are facing charges of unlawful carrying of a weapon on school grounds, but authorities said additional charges may be filed.

Several parents confirmed that they received emails from the district informing them of the incident.
