(CBS4)- Colorado Congressman Joe Neguse helps pass major police reform legislation out of the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill includes banning chokeholds and no-knock warrants in drug cases.

The measure, named in honor of George Floyd, comes a month after he died in a chokehold by Minneapolis police.

Neguse helped write the bill.

"I think at the end of the day Congress has to meet this moment, it's clear hundreds of thousands millions of Americans across Colorado across the country are calling for change, right?" said Neguse.

The bill moves onto the U.S. Senate. Earlier this week, Democrats in the Senate blocked a narrower Republican-backed reform bill.

A new police accountability law in Colorado is the first in the country to hold officers personally liable for wrongdoing. Gov.Jared Polis signed the bill on Juneteenth, just 16 days after it was introduced.
