Coffman Claims Victory In Congressional District 6 Race
DENVER (CBS4) - Rep. Mike Coffman has been elected to a a fifth term in Congress.
The Republican defeated former state Senate President Morgan Carroll, a Democrat, in the race to represent the voters of Colorado's most ethnically diverse congressional district.
Colorado's 6th Congressional District, which covers parts of Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas Counties, is about 20 percent Latino. It also has also become home to more liberal voters since its inception in 1980.
In a Colorado Decides debate that included CBS4 Political Specialist Shaun Boyd as a moderator, Coffman touted his willingness to work with Democrats to find solutions to the country's problems, such as the national debt.
"The Lugar Center ranked me the 25th most bipartisan member of Congress," he said. "I'm in a group called No Labels. It's not a large group, but it's Republicans and Democrats that have come together to try and find common ground."
There were numerous attack ads in the Congressional race, many of which Boyd did her Reality Check reports on.
Coffman in one ad accused Carroll of using her position as a state lawmaker to pass bills that benefitted her as a trial attorney. Carroll ran an ad that linked Coffman with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's more controversial stances.
