Closed Canyons Add To Congestion On I-70

IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Interstate 70 had to be closed in both directions Friday night from Loveland to the Eisenhower Tunnel for about 45 minutes because of multiple car crashes.

With so many canyons closed because of the flood damage the congestion on I-70 has become even worse than normal.

As drivers went farther up I-70 the weather situation became much worse. Snow was blamed for two accidents on the east side of the Eisenhower Tunnel and one on the westbound lanes shutting down the road almost completely.

Traffic was backed up for miles as vehicles had nowhere to go. Both directions of the interstate were reopened just after 8 p.m.
