Brush Fire Claims Building & Vehicles, Closes Highway For Hours

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A brush fire closed Highway 285 near Turkey Creek Road for three hours on Wednesday afternoon. Homes in the area were evacuated.

The highway reopened at 4:30 p.m.

The so-called "North Turkey Creek Fire" was burning in trees near mile marker 243 along Highway 285. The fire was estimated at seven acres. It was 100 percent contained before 6 p.m.

Businesses and homes along Goddard Ranch Court, including the West Ranch Center, were evacuated.

One structure and two vehicles burned in the fire.

Elk Creek, Inter Canyon, Indian Hills, West Metro Fire Rescue and Platte Canyon firefighters responded to the fire.

The highway was closed in both directions in that area for about three hours.

What started the fire was being investigated.
