Colorado Sanders Supporters Plan To Show Discontent At DNC

By Howard Nathan

DENVER (CBS4) - Members of the Colorado Democratic delegation say they will be meeting with Sen. Bernie Sanders at 2 p.m. Monday. The meeting comes at a time when Sanders' supporters are planning to make their discontent known on the convention floor this week during the Democratic National Convention.

"I'm not sure what my demonstration is going to look like. I am very, very angry at my party. I have been a Democrat for a long, long time", said Anita Lynch of Denver.

Lynch is a committed Sanders delegate from Denver, and just like Drew Romano of Boulder, the pair refuses to switch their vote to the presumptive nominee, Hillary Clinton. They spoke to CBS4's Howard Nathan via Skype from a hotel room in Philadelphia.

Some party delegates are so disappointed with Clinton's choice for a running mate, they are threatening to walk out or turn their back to Sen. Tim Kaine during his acceptance speech. The Sanders crowd believes he is not progressive enough.

What will Romano do?

"I'm going to have to cross that bridge when we get there, and if the bridge is a 'bernin', the bridge is a 'bernin'. So we're just going to have to see," Romano said, pun intended.

Sanders and his supporters have been crying foul over Democratic Party emails they say shows a bias for Clinton led by the party's chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, who announced her retirement from the position when the DNC concludes.

"Well I think it's outrageous, but it's not a shock to me. I think, as I said, it's what we talked about six months ago" Sanders said.

Romano even accuses his own party of squashing dissent.

"We're afraid to even speak our minds because they can pull our credentials at any moment for disparaging the Democratic Party like we've seen in some of the emails," he said.

Going into the convention, a Sanders delegate told CBS4 their pick has 41 Colorado delegates versus 25 for Clinton.
