Barefoot Runner Ticketed For Not Having Permits
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities in Boulder say barefoot running enthusiast Christopher McDougall was ticketed for failing to have the proper open space permits for a group barefoot run.
The Daily Camera reported that the bestselling author of "Born to Run" had scheduled a group run up Flagstaff Mountain on May 1 following a book signing in downtown Boulder.
But city officials say special permits are needed for groups of 25 or more using open space. A ranger was waiting for McDougall and 41 others at the end of the run, where he was ticketed.
McDougall, who lives in central Pennsylvania, says he didn't know he needed a special permit when he scheduled the event. He says he was initially angry but realized he was in the wrong.
A municipal judge will decide what McDougall's fine will be.
